Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
